Colonization Pattern of Abandoned Croplands by Quercus pyrenaica in a Mediterranean Mountain Region

چکیده
Land abandonment is a major global change driver in the Mediterranean region, where anthropic activity has played an important role shaping landscape configuration. Understanding woodland expansion towards abandoned croplands critical to develop effective management strategies. In this study, we analyze colonization pattern of by Quercus pyrenaica Sierra Nevada mountain range (southern Spain). We aimed assess differences among populations within rear edge Q. distribution. For purpose, characterized (i) pyrenaica, (ii) structure seed source (surrounding forests), and (iii) abundance main disperser (Eurasian jay, Garrulus glandarius). The study was conducted five located two representative on contrasting slopes. Vegetation plots three habitat types (mature forest, edge-forest cropland) were established compute oak juveniles. European jay determined using data bird censuses (covering 7 years). Our results indicate that natural recolonization occurring distribution species. Oak juvenile varied between sites. Neither surrounding-forest nor jays significantly patterns seem be related previous- post-abandonment management.

Altitude significantly affects vegetation growth and distribution, including the developmental stages of a forest. We used shotgun Illumina sequencing to analyze microbial community composition and functional potential in melojo-oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) rhizospheric soil for three different development stages along an altitudinal gradient: (a) a low altitude, non-optimal site for forest m...

In this data paper, we describe the dataset of the Global Change, Altitudinal Range Shift and Colonization of Degraded Habitats in Mediterranean Mountains (MIGRAME) project, which aims to assess the capacity of altitudinal migration and colonization of marginal habitats by Quercus pyrenaica Willd. forests in Sierra Nevada (southern Spain) considering two global-change drivers: temperature incre...

a problem of computer vision applications is to detect regions of interest under dif- ferent imaging conditions. the state-of-the-art maximally stable extremal regions (mser) detects affine covariant regions by applying all possible thresholds on the input image, and through three main steps including: 1) making a component tree of extremal regions’ evolution (enumeration), 2) obtaining region ...

Effects of artificial shading and weed mowing in reforestation of Mediterranean abandoned cropland with contrasting Quercus species
Large areas of abandoned cropland in the world can be reforested with native shrubs and trees to gain a number of environmental benefits. In abandoned Mediterranean croplands, establishment and growth of woody plants are limited by high radiation and low water availability during summer, and weeds are strong competitors for resources, particularly water. We conducted a 3-year experiment in cent...
